I suppose it comes as no surprise to discover that bingo has become really popular in Kryenia, Cyprus. This is chiefly due to the fact that so many UK holiday makers choose Cyprus as a holiday destination. It was only a matter of time before the bingo craze caught on.
Since the 1960’s the UK population in general, has encouraged bingo to become a way of life, particularly so in the major towns and cities. But not only is it a popular pastime, some of the prizes that have been given away have had a life changing affect on many people.
Many of these bingo winners have chosen to use their prize money to purchase property in Cyprus and have emigrated there. With the increase in UK immigrants to Cyprus it was felt that there was a need to set up regular bingo sessions, as a kind of home away from home. Jacqueline Toomey, together with a friend Jane Jennings who has become a regular caller, decided that they would get this off the ground and have started a regular afternoon bingo session at the Watermill Hotel and this is proving to be extremely popular with both UK immigrants and holidaymakers.
Patrons of the regular bingo sessions have taken this one step further and they donate a percentage of the takings to various Cypriot charities.
