Crown bingo have raised more than ₤1 000 after a series of bingo charity events hosted by the website. Considering that bingo has a remarkable history of raising funds for charity, going back many years, I find this story really heartwarming. Their charity of choice is BLISS and now their coffers are a little fuller than they were previously. BLISS distributes specially knitted clothing to neonatal units throughout the British Isles as premature babies are too small for shop bought clothing. Crown Bingo’s donation of cash was not the only contribution they made to this worthy cause.
The biggest response to the call to aid this charity was the Crown Bingo Knit-a-thon. Crown Bingo requested that its members knit and send in booties, cardigans and hats, and they have been receiving boxes of knitwear on a daily basis, they have virtually been flooding in. Crown Bingo is going to be sending these specially needed items on to BLISS for distribution.
Andy Cole, the Chief Executive officer of BLISS said that the generous donation from Crown Bingo and their members has made a huge difference to the charity. In the UK, one in eight babies is born too small to survive on their own. Many of them are ill and they are extremely vulnerable. BLISS provides advice and support to the families of premature babies, as well as these tiny knitted items.
Dan Smyth, the Managing Director of Crown Bingo said that the response from their members to the knit-a-thon had been astounding and many members got involved. Crown Bingo has previously supported charities such as Cancer Research, The Variety Club and St. Oswald’s Hospice. This month, the charity of choice is Orchid Cancer Awareness.
