Mark Formosa is hoping to stand for the Conservative Party in the next Taunton General Elections and as such has been on a bit of a campaign trail. One of his most notable visits was to the Mecca Bingo Club in Taunton where he did the celebrity bit by calling the numbers on a game.
He also made a point of slamming the double taxation issue that has been plaguing the UK’s land based bingo operations. He said that in the past twenty years more than half of the country’s bingo clubs had closed.
He also said that he had a very enjoyable night and despite his public speaking skills he was actually really nervous about standing in front of the crowd of hundreds of bingo players and calling the numbers, while trying not to get any wrong. It just goes to show that the bingo callers job is not as easy as it appears to be.
He also said that he was quite amazed by the different people playing bingo, he could see that they came from all walks of life, and he realised that the game was an important social amenity, particularly for people who lived alone.
