It seems that no matter where we look, the online bingo industry is engaged in a “full-on” advertising campaign for UK television watchers. Virtually every TV commercial break has an advert running for some or other online bingo site and these are becoming more familiar on ours screens daily. We have seen Betfred, Foxy, Ladbrokes and a whole host of others.
Paddy Power have been in trouble with their London Underground advertising campaign, but this seems par for the course for this online bingo site. They always seem to be in trouble with the advertising standards authority. Someone even had something to say about the Foxy bingo advert appealing to children because there is a “Fox” featured in the ad. Fortunately this never came to much.
The National Bingo Association objected to the ASA about a National Lottery advert because they felt that it depicted to the public that land base bingo was a little more past it’s prime than it actually is and the NBA won their case. Nevertheless some have won their cases and others lost, having their adverts summarily removed from our screens.
The latest to take flack in this line-up is Ladbroke, it only took one viewers perception of the ad for a complaint to the ASA and they had to investigate. She said the woman was depressed and used playing bingo as an escape from her personal problems. Fortunately for Ladbrokes the ASA did not see it in the same light and this mercifully is one of the adverts that has escaped being banned.
